Crossing Paths

Skittering up a hilltop. Climbing up a log. Tail twitching with excitement. Raccoon looked over the valley in anticipation. Today was the day! He could feel it!

Trying his hardest to wait patiently, he skittered up and down the log. Looking out across the valley every now and then. “Any moment now!” He thought.

“Honk, honk, honk!” The geese sang as they flew by.

Raccoon tried to holler a question to them as they flew, but they could not hear him over their own hollering.

Twitching some more, he looked on. Hoping the moment would arrive soon as he felt he would explode if he had to wait a moment longer!

At that moment, he sensed movement to his right side. He glanced over to see a large, rather thin, bear.

Gulp. Raccoon swallowed. Nervously he asked, “Is that you, Bear?” For bear looked so much thinner than he remembered him in the fall.

Bear stretched and yawned. “In the flesh.” He replied.

Sighing with relief. Raccoon ran over to his friend. “I did not recognize you, Bear!”

Laughing, they hugged.

Bear asked if raccoon minded if they ate something because he was awfully hungry after such a long nap.

Raccoon delightfully agreed. Scampering off with Bear to find something delicious to eat. He was delighted to see his friend again. He had so much to tell Bear. He started right away chattering non-stop until they came to the creek for Bear to fish. Raccoon knew to be quiet while Bear fished. So he impatiently waited for a fish to be caught. Delighting in the moment, because he had forever to spend with Bear now that the long nap was over.
